About Nurse Sosiak

Nursing and nursing education have been through extraordinary changes over the recent years. The nursing profession has come to be recognized for its influential role in the quality of patient care in healthcare facilities across the world. Nursing education is a development of the nursing profession where highly skilled nurse educators expand their knowledge and experience to future generation of nurses. The nurse educator is responsible for transmitting the functions and duties of nursing to those who wish to dedicate their careers to this extremely challenging profession, discipline, and science. The role of the nurse educator is increasingly more important given the significant impact of nursing in the physical care of patients and the amount of interdisciplinary knowledge required for accelerating patient’s return to health.

Barbara Sosiak, MSN, RN, is an outstanding medical professional with over 43 years of expertise in nursing. She is currently a Nurse Educator at Rutgers University and Drexel University sharing her seasoned knowledge with her students through comprehensive teaching and mentoring. Her professional journey encompasses her remarkable performance as a public health nurse for communities in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Endowed with an innate intellectual curiosity, Barbara Sosiak has permanently extended her education in order to maximize her potential and embrace her full spectrum of talents.  Her remarkable coaching skills have nurtured her success as a nurse educator and have forged her authority in the field. Barbara Sosiak taught medical and surgical nursing at the University of Pennsylvania-School of Medicine between 1966 and 1970.

Embracing her public speaking skills, Barbara Sosiak also lectured for professional groups and within the community. Furthermore, she is a dedicated volunteer in South Jersey with a continuous involvement in the Mobilizing for Action through Partnership (MAP) program. She is also collaborating and planning with the Community Health Outreach Consortium of New Jersey. Barbara Sosiak is highly regarded for her exceptional work in public health nursing, a nursing specialty established by Lilian Waldo in 1893. Public health nurses “integrate community involvement and knowledge about the entire population with personal, clinical understandings of the health and illness experiences of individuals and families within the population.”

Barbara Sosiak, MSN, RN, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from the University of Rochester, which she obtained in 1962. She further advanced her career with a Master’s Degree in Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania. In addition, she is a member of the American Nurses Association and Sigma Theta Tau. In her free time, Barbara Sosiak dedicated to traveling and gardening.
INA 2014 Gray logoBarbara Sosiak, MSN, RN, has recently earned publication into the prestigious Worldwide Leaders In Healthcare published by the International Association of Nurses (INA) as a result of her phenomenal career as a nurse educator. In addition, she has received Governor’s Nursing Merit Award by the State of New Jersey for her outstanding work in the field of public health nursing, as well as the Appreciation of Service Award by Helene Fuld Board of Directors in 2007.
